Press Release Summary = This podcast includes a discussion of half a century of art and life at the RWW Art Center. The guests interviewed for the podcast included Lady Hilary Weir and Barbara Heller, who are trustees of the RWW Exhibition Trust in London and Suzan Wissa Wassef and Ikram Nosshi who run the RWW Art Center in Cairo.
Press Release Body = The RWW Art Center received the prestigious Aga Khan Architecture Award in 1983. The Art Center is world famous for its hand made, museum quality tapestries. The tapestries are made from natural materials dyed using natural dyes, whose plants are grown on the grounds of the Art Center.
In this interview, Architect Ikram Nosshi discussed the Art Center's architecural developments over the past 50 years. He also described the dye making processes used at the Center, some of which date back to Ancient Egypt and the Coptic Era.
In this podcast, Lady Hilary Weir gave a retrospective of the Art Center which she has known and lectured about for the past 30 years. Lady Weir described the exhibits that were held in Britain for the Art Center, the last exhibit in 2006, commemorated the 50th anninversary of the Center. Barbara Heller discussed the books that were published about the Art Center since 1961. The last book 'Egypitan Landscapes' was published in 2006 to commemorate 50 years of life and art at the RWW Art Center.
Susan Wissa Wassef talked about how weaving has changed the lives of the weavers who started at the Art Center as children. She described how the Art Center takes pride in teaching, nurturing and mentoring these young children until they become world famous tapestry artists.
